Managers: Eliane Piaggio and Bruno M. Colombo
Training
The persons in charge of the “Training and Dissemination” work package are responsible of:
1- Looking after the newly recruited people (students, post-doctorates, trainees): each newcomer will be followed by one of the two persons responsible of this work package, in the role of tutor. The function of the tutors will be to ensure the good integration of the newcomer with its reception team and all the laboratory personnel.
2- Coordination of the internal training: specialized modules of introduction to the good laboratory practices and techniques will be proposed.
These trainings will take place twice a year:
- September-October (addressed to ESTBA, M2, doctoral and post-doctoral students)
- March-April (addressed to M1 students)
The topics covered will be:
- Human and animal ethics
- Hygiene and safety
- FACS, cellular culture, animal experimentation.
The modules will be coordinated by the tutors and will be ensured by the different members of the laboratory.
3- Coordination of the follow up of PhD students: a tutor, other than the PhD director, will accompany each student during the development of his doctoral work. Prof. Pierre-André Cazenave coordinates this task.
4- Incorporation of the newcomers to the laboratory life: the newcomer will be given the internal regulation book, will be informed and invited to take part in laboratory and bibliography meetings. In addition, according to the stay duration, he/she will be invited to participate in a collective laboratory activity (such as maintenance of the culture room, cold room, chemical supplies… together with the permanent in charge of this task).
5- Management of a training budget: a budget will be assigned to ensure the assistance of the students to scientific meetings and courses.
Dissemination
The objective is to promote the activities and the technical and scientific progress of the laboratory to the scientific community and to the general public.
- The representation of the laboratory will be assured in informative seminars addressed to the students and in events addressed to the young people, covering the Universities, the schools of technicians - like ESTBA, EPHE -, “la fête de sciences”, etc. The university professors of the unit will play an important role in this mission, with the final objective of promoting the recruitment of the best and most motivated students.
- Teaching activities:
- The activities proposed in the I3 project are connected with the three Master level curricula proposed at UPMC (Master program in Molecular and Cellular Biology, specialization in Immunology) in which we take part: 1. Advanced Immunology; 2. Immunophysiopathology; 3. Immunotechnology. In particular, the I2D3 team gained expertise and knowledge in Systems immunology will contribute to the improvements of these Master curricula.
- In 2008-2009, a new master curriculum in bioinformatics and modeling in biology common to biologists, computer scientists and mathematicians should be created at UPMC (coordinator Dr. A. Carbone) in partnership with Université Libre de Bruxelle (Belgique) and University of Leeds (UK). The I3 unit will propose to participate to this master. In turn, the recruitment of competent students in such transversal activities should be facilitated.
Our laboratory is also involved in the formation of students belonging to the Professional and Research Master “Biothérapies Tissulaires, Cellulaires et Géniques” (University Paris 12, Paris 13 and University of Evry).
